The
Montafon valley Consists of several ski area's:Golm and Grabs at Tschagguns,
Hoch Joch at Schruns,
Silvretta Nova with access from Sankt Gallenkirch, Gortipohl and Gaschurn.
Gargellen a mountain village which lies at the foot of the Schaftberg Ski Area, a scenic drive up a one and a half lane mountain road, narrow as hell but just don't run into a bus on it's way down!. If you're into off-piste, and ski touring, there is a ridge to climb here and ski down in to Klosters (CH).
Partennen is at the foot of the Silvretta Alpine Pass, a tram ride up, a short but hairy drive through a couple of pre war tunnels in a four wheel drive gets you to the Bieler Höhe, a small Ski area next to a huge hydro-electric reservoir, for the Die Hards there is a Cat Tow to from the Bieler Höhe to Galtür. Kristberg, near Innerberg, a small village down into the Silbertal, if it snows a lot and it stays cold you can ski here too.
Ski busses are the best transportation in and around the valley, and if you have a Montafon Ski Pass, your ride is for free all over the Montafon valley from Bludenz to Partennen and up those darn goat trails too! The Montafon Ski Pass is your access to all the skiing areas within the valley. Have a peek at the full size Austria Ski piccies that were made during the ski-outs the last couple of years.
Gay Elliot and Walter Joly (Jolly Wally) organize ski and cycle trips in Canada and Austria and operate an all ages Fitness gig in Hudson, Quebec, Canada. The Austria Ski-Out usually starts around the first week of February and lasts approx 14 days, but hey, you can even go for a week! The 2006 edition will be held 4 to 18 February 2006. Most of the crowd has been coming back for years on end, it's great fun, a fortnight of party and ski with a fun loving bunch of all ages! Austria's Montafon Valley is just 141 km's from Zürich's International Airport.
